Root can't effect performance it just an access level not a running process. You had something else wrong other than your misunderstanding of root.

As I respect you opinion and your right to have it just don't try and educate others with it.

It wasn't the root like zedorda said, my is rooted with xposed framework on and it don't lag at all.

Like other's said, root shouldn't have any effect on performance. It's what you use that affects the lag.

I'm rooted and have no performance issues. Works just like as it's unrooted.

I've been rooted on my Note 3 since day one pretty much... No performance impact. As others said root alone won't cause performance issues... If you root and tinker with things.. It could.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say something, it's not meant to be rude, but please don't root unless you completely know what you're doing. If you have an older phone that's not your daily driver, practice on that. Your carrier usually will not help you unroot.
