stock sms app sending long texts as mms

Just noticed a long message I wrote sent as an mms instead of a long text message. Anyone know how to stop this as I can't see it in settings? Or does anyone know how long the message needs to be before it decides to convert? Looks like 2 sms still go as one long sms, maybe it converts beyond that?

Using the stock messaging app there isn't a way to stop this - I think it allows you to send 3 SMS messages as 1 before it converts it into MMS.

I just wrote one and was halfway through the second sms in length and a message popped up saying converting to multimedia! So I'm not sure it is that strict on when it decides to do it and if you then shorten the text, it's not clear if it converts back to sms. But of a shame as km actually happy with the stock app but most of the sms I send are long ones so a bit of a deal breaker to me if it just randomly converts

I just tested this out on my own phone, each time it converted after I typed 3 messages (140 characters I think per message)

Have you tried using a 3rd party messaging app to see if it's any different?
