The only thing that would make it charge slowly is a low mah charger or the phone is not sleeping(or obviously under non-stop use like with gps or some games). I use the VZW standard charger(with 2nd usb port) in the car and even after a 4 hour drive, it doesn't loose a single point of battery...

Well yea, that's the rub, NOBODY wants it. I think Vista and newer blocks it(as you probably need to manually authorize it), whereas XP just lets it start right up. Mine goes right to default browser(firefox). I'll have to try it on my W7 machine at work.

Check all your basic settings in wireless and networks(among other things). It toggles a whole bunch of the basic settings to some new 'default'. Something might of been switched around or unchecked.

Setting>applications>running services or manage applications has ways for you to get in and force stop.
