Set a Notification at a specific Time

Hello to all,
I have a particular need for the App you would like to accomplish.

How do I schedule a notification to a specific time set by the user?

Of course, the notification shall come out even if the user has never not started the app from when he turned on the phone (The notification is a reminder for some action to be performed, and the user needs to be updated even if that day is not opened the App).

I know that I have to use the AlarmManager class, but I do not understand what is the best method.
What are the tools to use (Service, BroadcastReceiver)?
For now I managed to do a service, but I doubt that it can suck too much battery ... And 'the case of using a service only to wait for it to arrive at a certain time?
What is the best method?
Do you have any example to suggest me?

Welcome to the forums! It's good to have you here. From your post, I'm wondering why setting alarms wouldn't work. Perhaps and an app that can set multiple alarms like this one. The calendar app also seem like it might fit your need, allowing you to create multiple appts. and set a notification for each. Can you tell us what you may want that alarms and calendars aren't quite suited for? Thanks so much.
