Sprint 4g question

I have been thinking of getting the Samsung Galaxy 3 to replace my Galaxy 2. However, it only comes with Sprint's 3g and LTE. Since I would not be getting LTE for a while I thought it might be better to stay with the Galaxy 2 until Sprint has LTE in my area since that has 4g on Sprint's present network.

However, I just ran speed test and 4g isn't really worthwhile (in my house anyway.)

ping dl up
148 2177 420 3g
152 2108 617 3g
176 1629 338 4g
119 2446 258 4g
141 1143 51 4g
71 10217 5165 wifi

Since 4g is underwhelming I am wondering if I am getting 4g. The settings show Sprint 4g is active. I have 4g on the the 4g status bar moves when I am using it.

My question is - do you think I am really getting 4g now? I would be interested in seeing Speedtest results comparing 3g and 4g from others. Please post your location also,

I will have to admit it doesn't look like your getting any advantage while on 4g over your 3g speeds.

If your 4g is active and signal bars are receiving then you should be on 4g. If you go into your Settings/Wireless & Networks/ look for your setting for 4g is it showing active/IP address acquired while connected to 4g?

If so I would check with Sprint, see if there is something going on with 4g in your area because you should see a lot better spread in speeds between 3g/4g...

Sprint's current 4g network struggles indoors and with coverage in general. I'd believe those are actual 4g connections if the signal isn't as strong as it could be.

Personally I've turned 4g on perhaps a dozen times in the last 18 months. Mostly to tether to my laptop if I needed it for a few minutes. I have wifi at home and work, and the 3g is fast enough to stream internet radio, music, or browse forums with tapatalk. For me "giving up" 4g is largely irrelevant, except downtown grand rapids where the 3g signal can be especially slow if I ever really wanted to download something while walking around.

But west michigan is in the 2nd round of markets to see LTE so we might have it by the end of this year/early next year.
