overly sensative screen

hoping that someone can help me,
have brought my father in law a Galaxy S3, my wife also has the s3 and it is brilliant.
on the new one i have brought the screening is very sensative- too the point that you dont acytally have to touch the screen for it to do something- not good if you are trying to type an email and are thinking of what to write.
is this a faulty handset, or is there a setting to turn it down??? i have already put a screen protector on but this has had limited success.
any advice would be appriciated.

There's no setting to adjust sensitivity on the S3. (There is on the S4, I think.) If it's a lot more sensitive than your wife's S3, then I head to the AT&T store with both of them, demonstrate the problem, and ask for a replacement.

BTW, is that your picture, David? Or are you the David Whitehouse I work with in Virgina?
