Can you expand a little on the multi tasking tweaks?

Yes, HTC was using some sort of "Task Killer" called (wiper.apk) that would kill apps running in the background. Basically an auto task manger / killer (which has been discouraged since Android 2.3+). Well, I killed it there auto task killer!!! (Get it? I killed the task killer? Get it?)
Hope that explains

Its not on the international version because the International version uses an Nvidia chip. This is specific to the US based versions and is actually compiled by Qualcom (for HTC) who makes the chip for the US version.
Although they are both One X the architecture of the devices are very different in that regards.
Hope the clarifies.

Never the less, I've seen AT&T sneaking task killers onto phones that didn't have it in other markets. (Atrix2, Razr).
But your reply confuses the issue even more. Are you saying this task killer was compiled into the kernel, or was it an .apk?
And what exactly about a task killer in an apk would be specific to the processor chip? Killing a task is an OS feature, and requires no specific knowledge about the processor in use. - 05-28-2012, 12:36 PM

Sorry for your confusion. I thought I was pretty specific.
The task killer may have been requested by ATT, but it is also present in the other North american variants, aka: Rogers One X and possible the Sprint Evo 4G LTE (Same platform).
It is not kernel specific. Sorry if I confused you there. The Task Killer is an APK and was written by Qualcomm and signed by Qualcomm for HTC.
I have attached the APK so you can decompile it and do further research. Also attached is the config file that governs the APK.
There is no specific documentation that I can find that specifically states this is a task killer but after intensive testing by me and many others as well as the layout of the XML I am lead to believe that this is a task killer. If you can find any research or documents that give a different explanation I would be open to hear what you find.
XML Header
* @file wiperconfig.xml
* @brief Store configuration settings for Wiper Application
* Coppyright (C) 2009 QUALCOMM Incorporated.
* All Rights Reserved. QUALCOMM Proprietary and Confidential.
Hope that helps!

Ok, i pretended to install that apk, (and backed out at the last minute) and the permissions requested were course location, full Internet, and storage access, and a couple i forgot.
That seems unusual for a task killer.
But it seems about right for a remote wipe utility for exchange compatibility.
What do you think? Could it be something like that?
Of maybe wallpaper styles? There seems to be some references to that in Google.

Very possible! Very possible!! No doubt!
So why do you think Qualcom would write a remote wipe app?
Lets take the conversation offline. You bring up some valid points. I would like to figure it out. All I know is this... ROMS run a lot smoother with out the wiper app. And apps dont shut down when they are in the background. Maybe its a side affect of the wiper app being removed. And that the wiper app itself is is causing closing issues. Another thing,. there is a rerernece to a specific data location on the device inthe XML. I think I will probe that location and see what is there. You got me wondering now.
As far as Google. The only thing that turns up is a post that is 2 years old and for the Experia Play. And that person was asking the same thing. What is Wiper.apk. Hmmmm.... Keep searching man. You'll find the answer.
But why would Qualcomm write a Remote Wipe app and only its included on certain devices? It just doesnt make sense. Im lost now.
Keep searching and let me know what you find. - 05-29-2012, 01:05 AM #17
Yup, it's pretty weird. Do Canadian dual core HOX have it?
I can only think of one reason HTC would have Qcom write that for them, and that would be because it tied in very closely with the radio (LTE is integrated in the Qualcomm processor, but not the Nvidia quadcore).
Remote wipe is designed to be triggered over the radio, but s simple task killer is strictly local)
You are right, its very strange. I'll keep digging.

Yea man, I cant find CRAP. But on the same note there is also no mention of a remote wipe app in the phone. You think there would be some sort of setting or something, right?

Ok, I looked at the Evo 4G LTE and it does not have the Wiper app. Now I really wonder it is.

Re: [ROM - 6/4] - CleanROM 2.4.5 SE -★| Landscape! | EQS! | APM!
Just flashed the clean rom. Nice Job.
I have one request for future updates. Could you re-re-map the hardware buttons so that the recent apps button pulls up the recent apps (normal ics behavior), and then a long press on the recent apps button maps to the menu button?
My reasoning, is eventually, the "menu" button is something that will get obsoleted, so mapping it as a secondary action (i.e. long press) is a better approach. Or, you can give a setting where users have a choice. I dunno. Personally, I'm not a fan of long-presses, so I prefer it for functions I hardly use (like menu).
While you're at it, you could shove in s-voice, and have a long-press on the home button launch s-voice. no?

Re: [ROM - 6/4] - CleanROM 2.4.5 SE -★| Landscape! | EQS! | APM!
I am using CleanROM 3 Lite, and I have to say I am very impressed. It is very smooth and stable, and I have yet to find anything that does not work.
Unfortunately, it does not fix my battery issue (LTE + signal loss leads to huge drains after signal is regained), I think I may have to try a Sense-free ROM for that.
But again - awesome job on CleanROM, I love it!!
