This post probably doesn't belong in this thread, but the 6P forums have been really good to me. Thanks to all of you for that.

Here's my question: I'm not rooted or anything like that and I happen to really like the simplicity of Marshmallow so I'm not interested in changing launchers. But, I hate the Ads while trying to browse chrome, as I'm sure you all do. Are there any ad blockers in the app store that can help me? If so, do you have any favorites?

Thank you in advance for your input.

I am using AdGuard now but I'm just not sure it's doing anything much. I am not a heavy Chrome user though. It does let some ads through but I think that's purposeful. You check XDA forums too where they have an extensive post on this app.
I'm not currently using it. I had it for a little while last year before I rooted my Z3c and remember not being that impressed. I chalked it up to me not understanding how to use the program. If you're willing to root there are MUCH better alternatives.

npBrowser

Built in ad blocker with no blank ad frames. Also has night mode.

That's a decent one but that isn't open source and the developer has gotten in trouble before with data on XDA and Reddit. There's an open source browser with the same features since they use the same open source Chromium called RSBrowser but that still has spotty ad blocking but is open source if people care for that. Then there's Firefox Browser with its extensions that include ad blocking ones like uBlock and the Adblock Browser and the Dolphin Browser with a adblock addon and then the Ghostery Browser so all in all lots of options. Google needs to make the Android Chrome Browser to have extension an area where the stock Safari browser on iOS trounces since mobile ads on browsers are horrid

As Pirate Arr mentioned, Firefox on Android has adblock extensions that work well. It's what I use.

I used Firefox on Android, would definitely recommend it. I installed it towards the end of my last phone, and when I got my 6p and started loading my apps, I forgot about that one and moved to Adblock ... I'm gonna install Firefox again and see which one I like better.

I'm using Free Adblocker Browser also, it works very well. I don't object to the principal of ads, after all that's what pays for Android, but Chrome has become unusable because the ads are so obtrusive, they completely block some articles, so I switched to Free Adblocker Browser last fall and it's been great.

There is also an add on that you can get if you have Firefox as your browser called uBlock Origin, very good.

Do either Adblock Browser or Firefox w/adblock extensions have a problem with playing inline videos? (e.g. embedded YouTube videos)?

So, exactly what are you saying. If the app let's some purposeful ads through, then why are you unsure of it doing anything much? I use chrome and decided to try AdGuard and I'm amazed. Initially, I was skeptical about giving it access because it doesn't come from the play store, but I scanned it for malware and it checked out just fine. I say that I'm amazed because I'm able to still use chrome, which I happen to like and I have yet to see a scroll, slide, or even a pop-up from a keyword touch ad. This app is the real deal so far.

I am not using it to block ads within apps because I have purchased nearly all of the apps that I like to get an ad free experience. This app even blocks all of the notorious ads in my porn sites!

Thankyou so much for the great suggestion!

I used to use Firefox with the Adblock Plus and Ghostery extensions, but I got totally sick of how Firefox does not work with the LastPass app, and how Firefox kept deleting my cookies even when it should not have.

Now I use the Ghostery browser, which, not surprisingly, has Ghostery's tracker-blocking functionality built in. It's not primarily intended to block ads, but in my experience it does block a great many of them, simply as a side-effect of blocking trackers.

In addition, the developer of the fantastic NetGuard no-root firewall is working on a version that will be able to block ads (and any unwanted hosts) by employing support for the importing of a HOSTS file. The version with this HOSTS functionality is still in beta, and to get it, you will have to sideload NetGuard from GitHub. (The reason for this is that Google will not allow this ad-blocking functionality on the Play Store.)

Here's the NetGuard thread on XDA.
