Brightness bar changes on its own

So, I am not sure what is going on here (on my 23 ultra running Android 14.)

I have noticed periodically the screen dimming. I check from the pull-down menu the brightness bar, and it has moved left, to a dimmer place than I left it. All by itself. Why? I don't know. I have been trying to develop some association with some apps, and I thought maybe I saw some connection with various e-reader apps like Kindle and Cool Reader, but I have definitely seen it happen when I'm not using either one.

And it always dims the screen, never brightens the screen. I do not have power saving on. At this point, this is happening maybe half a dozen times a day, enough to be annoying, although not catastrophic. I am always able to go back in and increase brightness. At least until the next time the Gremlins attack.

Any ideas appreciated.

Do you have adaptive brightness turned on?

I did. I am going to turn that off and see if it reoccurs. Good suggestion, thanks

Adaptive brightness will change the slider based on environment you in and you can train it in places by manually moving it so it remembers that situation

Thanks to all---I think this was it. I'm still playing with it, but since turning it off, I've had no problems for a day.
