cell service provider won't accept phone without HD Voice. Need explanation.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere 2 phone that I wanted to use on my Puppy Wireless Verizon system. However I was told that the phone wouldn't be accepted because it didn't support HD Voice. I have never heard of this before, and I don't think I've seen HD Voice listed as a capability on most phones I've looked at.

Can anyone explain what might be going on here? The tech support person at Puppy Wireless couldn't offer any assistance other than to say the phone wasn't HD Voice capable.

Verizon is shutting down their CDMA network at the end of this year, so all phones will need to support VoLTE (Voice over LTE, aka HD Voice). In other words, voice calls will use 4G LTE bands, not the 2G CDMA band. A phone as old as yours won't be able to support VoLTE.
