Dalvik Cache Question

So I need to free up some space in the system of my phone. Dalvik cache seems to take up quite a bit. I want to know if it is safe to clear dalvik cache. If I do it will I lose progress in GAMES/apps? Say I clear dalvik cache for cut the rope. Will I lose my level progress?

Yes its safe to clear and you won't lose any saved games.

Clearing it will not get you any space.
As soon as you clear it and reboot, the system refills it with data.

What happens is that the system copies itself to Dalvik, and then runs from there. This way there is less chance of corruption of the main file system. This is why first boots take so long to complete.

If you need more room you have a few options...
Apps2sd, a rom that has more room, or both. Otherwise your only choices are a new phone or living with it.
