Gmail contacts only displaying email addresses and Sync 'Too many Contacts deletes'

Hi,

I just got the G4 and synced my personal and work Gmail accounts. Personal gmail synced ok but for my work contacts only the email addresses showed up.

I tried a few things and then eventually deleted the contacts from my phone and tried to sync again. At this point I started to get persistent notifications saying Sync 'Too many Contacts deletes'. I've googled that and tried to follow the explanations to fix it but none of them have worked so far.

I then managed to re-sync my contacts but I've got the same problem. Only the email addresses come through. On my old phone (Nexus 5) the numbers all showed up without me having to do anything special.

Any ideas? It's driving me nuts!
