Hesitating on Android 10

I was notified a few weeks ago that 10 is available. I then began reading all of the horror stories about Pixels hanging on reboot after upgrade or not booting at all, notifications not work right, photo album issues, etc.

I have held off on the upgrade hoping that Google would resolve at least the most serious of these issues but have seen no updates and have no reason to believe now that anything has been fixed.

Just curious what the consensus of opinion is on this - I want to upgrade but the last thing I need is a bricked Pixel.

Have there been any further updates on these issues (especially the boot after upgrade) that I've missed reading about?

I am on 10 and have no issues.

Anytime that Pixels are updated you see posts about issues because a higher percentage of users are "enthusiasts". They are more likely to post than the average user.

I think that if there were widespread issues there would be a ton of posts here.

I have no issues on Android 10. Very smooth, and gestures work quite well in my opinion.

As for the above post [which has since been deleted by a Mod, good riddance:)], all I can say is that all devices have security flaws. I have a good friend who is a security expert, and he can break into pretty much any phone, and yes, that includes iPhones. You'll drive yourself crazy if you obsess about it. Be careful about apps you install (and stick with the Play Store, not 3rd party app sources), stay away from shady sites (like porn, gambling, "free" movies/music downloads), and secure your accounts with good passwords and 2-factor authentication.

Dont hesitate on updating. Pixel 3a / Android has more holes than a pound of swiss cheese. Do yourself a favor, update ASAP, not that it will help secure your phone, but atleast you can think you are.

Approaching first anomaly.....brace yourselves

Which mobile OS would you suggest?

I was hesitant to upgrade because monthly security patches were taking me over an hour to install. What is strange was that the update to 10, which was over 1GB, took less than half the time to install than the monthly security updates which were less than 50MB. Was wondering if other people have had the same experience that I did.

Security experts can, but there are very few of those. After 46 years of developing software for a living, I'm still not a security expert. (Nor will I ever be - my interests don't lie in that direction. It takes years of study to become one.)

I haven't had my 3a XL for very long but I have installed two monthly security updates. Neither took very long - certainly nowhere near an hour.

Thanks to all who responded. Not referring to AC in particular, but I see an awful lot of articles and posts online about issues with upgrading Pixels to 10. If I feel daring I'll attempt to upgrade to 10 this weekend. When I do I'll update with how it went.

Updated to android 10 on day one myself. No issues for me. It's the best version of Android yet I'm my opinion. Personally love the gestures. Very smooth experience so far.

Been on 10 since about the 7th. No issues for me. I love how you can opt for the 3 nav buttons or gestures.

If you do upgrade and have issues you can always downgrade back to 9. Downside to that is it completely erases the phone. Make sure you back everything up before you upgrade. Also like every new os release there are always articles and reports of a few people having issues. If it was a massive issue affecting the majority of pixel owners, Google would have pulled the update and fixed it.

I have had 10 since day one on a 3a from Sprint and yesterday was the first day I actually restarted the phone since I upgraded to 10. Needless to say I have had zero issues.

I'm on Android 10 with the 3a ..no issues

How is your battery life on the 3a? I have the 3a xl. The xl is been pretty good so far. I'm enjoying this but in the back of my head kind of wish I went with the smaller 3a. In person it doesn't seem much smaller than the xl. I'm so used to larger phones I kinda wanted a smaller one for a change coming from the Note and Galaxy line. With T-Mobile I have 20 days to send my old S10+ back or send this back with no restocking fees. Am I better off with the xl with the larger battery or the 3a and more comfortable to hold?

I've always had bigger models and this phone is just a little bigger then my iPhone x .
I like the feel in the hand , now I got it yesterday and updated to Android 10 , after that I put it away until my case and temper glass comes tommorow then full on testing.

Can you report back tomorrow or the next day of your thoughts? I still have about 10 days before I send my s10+ back or send this back and get the 3a.

I have the 3a and the battery life is solid on this little guy. If you are a crazy heavy phone user then maybe not so much. My longest stretch with out a charge so far was right around the 36 mark and just under 3 hours of sot. Most nights I dont even charge the phone, I plug it in for Android auto during my morning and afternoon commute. Both are about 20-30 minutes and that keeps the phone at a usable charged state where I don't worry. I will say that the ambient display is a huge battery drain on this device. I turned that off after about a week and had a noticable increase in battery life.

I was in the boat you are in. Had big phones for the last couple years and just wanted something on the smaller side. This phone fits nice in the hand and I usually forget that it's in my pocket. Which you can't do with a note or iPhone max lol.
