How do I actually GET the MS Office Mobile on the tablet and working?

Just got a Galaxy Tab S6. Android 9.

I hit a half dozen sites that all claim Microsoft has an Android version of Office that's free... The S6 HAS "Office Mobile" on it, which I thought was the free version, but every time I try to use it, it demands that I get an Office 365 account. During which it insists I select the subscription.

So, IS there actually a free version, which I keep reading about, and if so, HOW do I get the right on (which IS the right one?) on the tablet, and what do I have to do to have it actually work?

Unfortunately you cannot use MS Office on devices with a screen size over 9 inches I believe unless you have a subscription. You can use it as a read only viewer. I am using google docs and the such on my tablets and MS on my Note 9 and other phones.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I saw something about this in one of the umpteen things I read, but I figured it being 2019 and all it was very old info. Apparently not. I'll try wps office and if I don't like that I'll go to goodgle docs.
