For some reason I am stuck while trying to root to my mac. It gets stuck with this last line of code:
$ /data/local/GingerBreak

I am not sure what to do next. Please let me know what you think the problem may be. My email is kmbp.junk@gmail.com.

I used link #5 to root my Infuse on my Mac. The first time I noticed a problem and found out it was because when my Mac decompressed the zip file, the resulting folder was not in the root of my Mac. Once I moved the file to the root, then I was successful.

I had the same issue as the last few posts here even though i'm using win7 x64. Do a google search for SuperOneClick and download it from xda site. No issues from there, I am now rooted, although i don't know about u mac users :) great effort here though it did not work for me.

edit: use AC Terrigno's sticky guide here to root

Unroot batch file download:

How to Unroot
  • Download Start_Unroot.zip
  • UnzipStart_Unroot.zip folder Place anywhere on your computer
  • Place your phone in debugging mode
  • Connect phone to PC
  • Open Start_Unroot folder Double Click Start_Unroot.bat
When the command window prompts you to enter adb shell , press any key to continue

[tip]To copy and paste into the command window, simply copy the command, then right click in the command window and a drop down menu will appear. Then select the option Paste[/tip]

Then at the "$" prompt enter the following commands
Code:
su

After entering this command look at your phone screen right away Superuser app may ask you to allow or deny root permission , select allow . Once you receive "#" prompt you may proceed. if you get permission denied , pull your battery and try again

Code:
mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/stl10 /system
rm /system/xbin/su
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/bin/busybox
exit
exit

Your phone will now reboot
Once the phone restarts you must uninstall superuser app
settings>applications>manage applications>superuser

Once uninstalled Unroot is complete.
for some reason i dont have the option to put my phone in charge only mode...I bought my phone and it was already rooted and the person took the sd card..im unrooting because i havent been able to backup the stock rom before tryin to flash a rom.But everytime i try it seems like it is going to backup thru rom manager but it never does.I have no idea what is wrong

I'm Just a new droid user trying to learn more and get the most most out my Infuse. AndroidCentral seems to be the place to go.

Thanks timmerc

I realize that no one is really fixing anything in this thread, and my specific problem has been mentioned before: $ /data/local/GingerBreak

This is as far as I can get using method 5 on my Mac. I'm assuming, as are others, that this is because of an update from ATT. Is there any way I can downgrade that upgrade so this exploit can go through? Dying to root and it kills me i missed the boot with this method by only a few weeks.

Is it bad if I don't have /data/local/temp. I can't find it anywhere to delete the contents.

Re: [How to] Root Samsung Infuse **5/19/11**[Windows & Mac]Now wi

So I have been at this whole root thing on your thread for literally a few hours and I finally got to the part on the CMD where you enter "/data/local/GingerBreak" after the $ sign and then it says "/data/local/GingerBreak: not found" & I am not sure what I am doing wrong. HELP PLEASE! Thanks!

What are the chances for Linux instructions? I found the Root 1.5.7 instructions, but they were kinda muddy, since it assumes a certain level of competence that I seem to lack. If anyone could clear that up, or provide a tarball or repository, that'd be great.

Re: Gingersnap One click root

Please forgive this noob........

I attempted to follow directions in post #3 and it freezes.

So.... I attempt to follow directions in post #4.... After cutting and pasting info in the first box i get " 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or an external command, operable program or batch file.

So the i attempted superoneclick and it freezes on step #7.

Any ideas on what is going wrong would be very much appreciated!!!

I have the same issues, exactly. Freezes on stealing the ginger's soul using post #3 and freezes during Step 7 of SuperOneClick.

Infuse SGH-I997 running Firmware 2.2.1 (FROYO.UCKH1).

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Gingersnap One click root

For anyone having this same issue, I tried SuperOneClick again, but this time I selected "psneuter" for the "Exploit" drop-down, and it worked flawlessly!

Re: [How to] Root Samsung Infuse **5/19/11**[Windows & Mac]Now wi

For anyone still trying to root a Samsung:

Installing Samsung Kies was the only way I could find to correctly install the drivers for my Infuse on my Windows7 laptop.

Then a YouTube note from fernandesilyt reported success using SuperOneClick to root his Samsung Galaxy i7500. His method sounded strange but I was ready to try almost anything.

Download, install, and simultaneously run SuperOneClick 1.4 AND 2.2.

"Every time version 1.4 freeze or fail, you click root again on 1.4..."

It worked. I wonder how.
