The Viperboy mod on XDA has been updated to allow root on the new firmware. Haven't tried it yet but others have had success.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what does rooting the Prime get us? I definately understand rooting my Thunderbolt - if nothing but to get rid of all the bloatware. Just curious....

Re: How to Root Transformer Prime on Windows, Mac, and Linux![ICS

Root = total control of the tablet so that you can do anything that you want with it. On the surface, it allows you to install any sort of application that would require root access. On phones that's usually more important, but still can be useful on tablets. When you dig deeper It also becomes to launching point for customizing things to a greater extent than the vendor would like. It's probably far more useful for developer types than the average consumer, but many people have a philosophy that says "If I buy a computing device then I should be able to do whatever I want with it, customize it however I want, run whatever software I want, etc." But without root access, you don't have that. So there's also a philosophical rationale for it.

On the flip side, it will likely break your ability to update (or at least be undone when you update) and you run the risk of really hosing things up if you do something as root that you shouldn't.

ZIP Download Link

If you're getting a failed root, download the above.

1. Download the .zip (Link above)
2. Plug in your Transformer and make sure to install the drivers located in the included .zip (unless you can already adb into your device, then no need for drivers)
3. Kill Asus Sync and Splashtop! - very important!! (Under Settings-Apps, search for and force stop)
4. Make sure you have NO OTHER ANDROID DEVICES connected via USB!
5. If on Linux, you may need to do "chmod a+x /path/to/primetime/primetime.sh" (no quotes)
6. Extract the .zip and in the folder, run the viperMOD PrimeTime.exe and choose an option.
7. After rooting, download OTA Root Keeper from the Market! This will save you a lot of trouble in the future Android Market Link

Things to be aware of:

Don't try to root with the Transformer in the dock
Don't try to use a USB extension cable
Don't forget and not download OTA Root Keeper
Don't skip steps and do follow directions

*For me, I tried to run the original link and steps by the OP in this thread but it didn't work. I noticed that it was because I had the latest ICS update. I found VipreBoy's link and it worked!

Re: How to Root Transformer Prime on Windows, Mac, and Linux![ICS

Had the same problem. Fixed it by replacing the adb-mac file with the adb file from the sdk platform-tools (just renamed it from adb to adb-mac). Ran runmemac.sh and everything worked...

This solved my problem as well, thanks!

I noticed when reading up on XDA concerning this rooting.....says not to be done on a 9.4.2.21...which is what mine is at. So has anyone that has used this done this on such a version of epad?????

From what I've read, you can't use any of the root methods if you're on 9.4.2.21. It appears that with this update, Asus closed the hole that was exploited before.

I was thinking about rooting myself, as it's done wonders for my Epic 4G, but it doesn't seem like it's feasible if you upgraded (like I did).

I'm sure the XDA folks will find another hole soon though. Sit tight.
