Has there been any news/ info on that tablet Hauwei was supposedly making that was supposed to be the equivalent to an updated Nexus 7?

I've been using my 2013 N7 since it came out, and I like it, but I feel like it's starting to show its age a little bit. I'd like to get something new, but it doesn't seem like there's much on the horizon for tablets, is there? I was even considering getting the rumored Shield tablet update that was in the works, but evidently that got cancelled. Doesn't seem like there's anything coming up any time soon, which kinda sucks. Not really looking to get a laptop. Wanted to continue on with a smaller tablet, preferably.

What are Google playing at?

They really need to release a 7" or 8" reasonably priced tablet soon. My Nexus 7 is starting to die.

It seems like an obvious strategy to me to have the following line up "made by Google".

Phones:
5", 32GB ($300) & 64GB ($375)
5.5", 64GB ($400) & 128GB ($475)

Tablets:
7" or 8", 32GB ($350) & 64GB ($425)
10", 64GB ($450) & 128GB ($525)

Chromebooks:
12", 32GB ($375) & 64GB ($450)
14", 64GB ($475) & 128GB ($550)

Phones and tablet must be 'water resistant', have 'wireless charging', and good quality screens and cameras.
