Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I would love to do the best buy method again, but they will not ship the g3. I am also a bit fearful of all the exposure that method has recieved over the last month. It had even been listed on slickdeals!

Thanks for your clarification on this. Unless the best buy website list the g3 for shipping before the end of the sale, I am going to go online and with the assistance of an online CSR, keep my current lines the same, and add the g3 on a new line. I might have them check out phone I intend to use as a dummy to make sure it is clear to activate on its own so I don't run into any problems later.

If you are not using the phone, Verizon can put a "test phone" on the line. It is just a esn number no actual device.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

First off, thank you for your help.
I fall into this upgrade:
UDP phone and dumb phone with upgrade
Line1 UDP(Upgrade available)
Line2 dumb phone (Upgrade available)
Line 3 dumb phone(Upgrade available)

1.Order smartphone using upgrade on Line2, select data plan
2.Activate smartphone on Line1
3.Pending data plan on Line2 will drop off in a week

I stopped at Verizon store to check out G3 and talked to a rep who pretty much said the same thing but told me I'd be better off ordering it online , She said she did this method for a friend. and also a lot of people are doing it.
Just so I get this straight and a few more final questions:

She said order it using Line 2(dumb line)upgrade and activate it on line 2. - Just follow the instructions it comes with using the new sim it comes with?

Then put old dumb phone (activate) back on Line 2. This is where the new data plan on Line 2 should drop off by itself in a few days?

She then said bring in the new phone into store and they will be able to put it on my UDP line. She said I wouldn't need to switch SIMS or anything, that they will be able to activate it. Any advantage or disadvantage to them doing it?
Line 2 would then be under 2 year contract with no upgrade for 2yrs, and Line 1(udp) and line 3 (dumb) would still have upgrades available.. but wouldn't be able to ever use/transfer Line 1's upgrade because if I did, I would lose UDP?
And finally.. since line 3 has available upgrade, say in a few months or later, do the same to get whatever the latest and greatest phone will be then and just sell the g3? not being greedy, just wondering.
You can transfer the upgrade from your unlimited line and keep your unlimited data. You just order the phone over the Internet. Transfer the upgrade to a non unlimited data line. Activate it on the dumb-phone line. Swap the back to your unlimited line. I did this with my wife's iPhone 5S. She is under contract with unlimited untill September of 2015. I intend to do this when the Note 4 comes out.

I currently have one of these "fictional" test phones on my 3rd line. Transferred my upgrade, ordered a new phone, awaiting arrival. But if i don't have the dumb phone in my possession (since I never actually had it, it was placed there by VZW), can i still activate the new phone on line 3, move it to my line, and just revert back to the previous test phone? Or is that only possible if you actually have a dumb phone in hand?

That is not a problem

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Some input to help me get this done right would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 1400 shared minutes plan w/4 smartphones. Line 1 UDP (mine) is currently a Razr Maxx w/upgrade available
Line 2, 3, 4 all have individual 2gb/month plans
Line 2 is a Samsung S4 w/no upgrade available

Thru Verizon online I ordered a Samsung S5 by transferring my upgrade to Line 2.

1) When the phone arrives, do we plug the Line 2 S4 SIM card into it or do we do an activation w/ the SIM card that comes installed in the S5.
2) After the S5 has been activated on Line 2, do we just reactivate the S4 on Line 2 with the SIM card that was originally in it, then put the SIM card from the Line 1 Razr Maxx (UDP) into the S5 and away we go?

So many threads. So many posts. Ugh!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you!

So i don't have to enter any info for the 3rd line to automatically go back to the test phone? It will just "fill in the blank" on its own?
You might want to right down the number, you might be able to pick a previous device. The wrist that would happen is you call and ask them to put the test phone back on your line.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Yes, I did have that message. There are other prompts to Keep the Existing Plan, and I did select that. I followed the directions and didn't have any issues.

Pulled the trigger with the alternate upgrade to another line on my family plan through Verizonwireless.com. I'll advise of the result!

Has your unlimited data been changed since you ordered the phone from verizon or is it still the same?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

i purchased the phone on the verizon website, they did charge me for an activation fee, so technically the phone was around 137$

Have you been able to keep your unlimited ordering it from verizon.com I assume you just put your old sim card in your phone before you cut the phone on when you got the new G 3 correct?

I chatted with a rep online while I was placing my order and specifically asked if my plan would change in any way and they said no. As of right now my data still shows Unlimited.

So I'm clear you ordered the G3 via Verizon using the dumb phone switch or just ordered it online and use your old sim card?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I'm planning to upgrade using the Best Buy method (order online and swap the SIM before turning the phone on) but the only issue is that you can't get the LG G3 shipped yet. Are you able to do this if you order online but pickup at the store? When I started going through the process it said I would need 30 minutes to setup the phone when it is picked up which to me means they will activate it and I loose my current unlimited data plan.

I don't have a 3rd line on my family plan and I can add one although I would rather not if I don't have to.

You cannot keep your unlimited data plan by going into the store and getting it done unless you get lucky with the people at Best Buy.

I imagine you could if you transfer it to a non UDP line then pick up and activate on the line you transferred to but I don't think you can do the bb method unless it's shipped to you.

That's correct.
