LG G4 charger making odd noise, phone going haywire

First observed this last night, and again today when I had my phone plugged in to charge - the charger emits a low volume noise, I would best describe it as crackling. The charging seemed to go as normal, however while plugged in the phone would act strangely: (a) when I tried using the lock code, the numbers & backspace didn't seem to work (b) when unlocked, various apps would open seemingly at random. Same situation observed with different USB cables inserted into the adapter.

Needless to say, I have unplugged the phone, just wanted to know if anyone else had this issue, and more importantly, did they experience any permanent effect or damage? In the meantime I will be using an old charger from another phone with a similar rating.

Note, this charger is about a year and a half old, Model number MCS-04WD2

Thanks!

Thank you, thought it must be something like that. I was definitely not using it again, in fact already ordered the replacement.

But still wondering why that would appear to be the cause of strange behaviour of the phone functions.
