I’ve been using an S10 and all my videos (mp4 format) show thumbnails in Windows 11. However, my new S24+, the thumbnails won’t show and the videos don’t play with the media player. Is says it requires a HEVC codec pack. I’ve been troubleshooting Windows, but it appears to be more of how my file format. How can I get the thumbnail to appear as well as play.

Can it be saved differently as I don't want to have to play everyone to know what it is. Top files are S24, bottom are S10

Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! Look in the Camera app's settings -- is it defaulting to HEVC there? If so, then the videos you took were saved in HEVC format. But Windows 11 should be able to play HEVC. See this thread for some troubleshooting steps: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-11/9f34ff18-36a5-4661-9809-59e171894814

Thank you. Yes, in my camera settings it is set to HEVC. Should I change that. Even if I can get it to PLAY in windows, I'm not seeing how I can get the thumbnails to appear.

If storage space is critical for you, then you may want to keep HEVC turned on, since it compresses the file more efficiently. If storage is not a problem, then I'd turn off HEVC for compatibility's sake.

I've seen a number of threads complaining about HEVC files not showing thumbnails in Windows 11. Installing the official Microsoft HEVC extension from the Windows Store might help, but I think it's no longer free. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ake-hevc/7813276b-29fe-4d2e-8660-47f57e172183
