I'm just about to pull the trigger on on a 12/256 Note 10+ from Samsung Cerified Re-Newed. With my Federal discount and Note 9 trade-in it comes to $343 and I can have it by next Wednesday. I feel like I might as well do it since I keep thinking about it.

Don't do it. Keep that Note 9 and get that 12/256 Note 10+ from Amazon renewed. You can get it for the same price, if not cheaper, AND you get to keep your Note 9. I'm looking right now and you can score one for $329 shipped.

Sellers like bayshine and thegadgetdeals have excellent service, high reviews and when they say it's in excellent condition, it's in excellent condition. Plus Amazon renewed gives you 90 days to use the phone. It's the best way to stay covered.

I know Amazon has it cheaper but Samsung has replaced the battery and provides a 1-year warranty. So I look it as that new battery and 1-year warranty costing me $160. Also Amazon does NOT give me a discount for being a government employee, Samsung is taking off, if I recall correctly, $147 for that. So, the phone would normally be $650 with the new battery and warranty but ...$343. I could buy from Amazon renewed but I'd get, I believe, a 30-day warranty and a battery with no less than 80% life. As someone that normally demands the purity-of-perfection that a brand new manufacturer-sealed device ensures...the Samsung Certified Re-Newed phone seemed like the next best thing. Because one scratch, one mark, is one scratch too many.

Sure. If you can afford it, then by all means, do you.. but you're going to probably put a case on it, and being that it's not going to be your daily driver, I know (from personal experience) that battery won't be an issue because it's capable of faster charging than current models. In the end, you're losing a phone and paying more for the same product. But like I said, we all have foibles and preferences, and you're entitled to yours. I just threw it out there because I got mine from Amazon and have had no issues for the year I've currently owned mine.

Amazon renewed is garbage honestly. The phones I've purchased were NEVER in good shape and were beat up and dirty, let alone questionable of the device carrier capatibility since they are never what they describe them as.

I recommend either Samsung or Swappa. If you've kept up with any of my posts on here, you'll see all the awful experiences I've had with Amazon.

I don't know about that. I've gotten three pristine and perfect condition phones that run without a hitch. It's definitely about picking the right seller though, as Amazon usually just throws out the cheapest price, but the seller may or may not be reputable. I've gotten a 3XL, Note 10+, and most recently a P4. No problems on the 3XL or Note 10+, and both came practically new. I did have a problem with the P4, but all I had to do was tell Amazon and they shipped out a new one (which was perfect). The best part was that I didn't have to wait til the seller got the bad phone before they shipped out the new one.

Amazon is so big that they could care less about stuff like that. I've found Samsung, TMobile and those other companies make you jump through so many hoops on order to get anything done past the point of purchase. I haven't made any purchases on Swappa, but I'd imagine it's like eBay, where there's a process and investigation time, and where they make you talk to the seller, and through that entire time, you're out money and you don't have your phone. Amazon is honestly the best because they just throw money/product/service at a problem until it's resolved. Sorry you haven't had a similar experience though.

My wallet knows you're 1,000,000% correct. My heart leads me astray. This is why I haven't done anything yet. I have too many unnecessary phones as it is.

I would. But I could easily buy another device for dirt cheap if I chose to do so and still have some money left over.

But for the current moment, I have been keeping that out of my mind

Over the next several days I'm going to really pay attention to this Note 9 6/128 and see if there's any real justification for me to replace it with a Note 10+ 12/256. I am so guilty of wasting money and chasing specs and I would like to cut back on that. I wish this Note 9 was 8/256 but its not and that doesn't mean I should waste $343, so we'll see.

Is the Note 10+'s camera notably better than the Note 9? For my use case it may not make much difference but it is just another thing to consider.

EDIT: After reading this: https://www.tomsguide.com/face-off/galaxy-note-10-vs-galaxy-note-9

...it certainly looks like the Note 10+ would be a notable (pun intended) upgrade.

What did you read that makes you think it's worth the upgrade? How will it enhance your life considerably?

Just wondering.

It will allow better photo results when I'm out being active (in situations that I don't want to expose my S22Us to. It allows reverse wireless charging for those same situations for my better half and son. It will give me more updates for a more secure/feature-rich experience, a better display (not so important]. A faster, smoother, (perhaps longer lasting experience). Are those things worth $343? That is the question.

I'm going to be real, I'm VERY disappointed in the Note 10+ camera. It doesn't hold a candle to the Note 9...that's using a GCam mod. A major caveat would be that I take pictures of my kids more than stagnant things, and it's almost always done indoors versus outside. This skews my opinion, so if you're the opposite, and you don't take indoor people pics, then the N10+ cam may be great for you. For me personally, I miss how well the GCam app worked with my N9. Yeah, the N10+ also has a GCam mod, but maybe it's because there are multiple cameras on the unit, but it just doesn't take the same quick and snappy pictures as the N9 with GCam.

Edit:
Here's an example. Take a look at how poorly the N10+ does with the hair in this indoor photo versus something like the Pixel 6. I know, I'm becoming the guy who just hates on Samsung indoor shots, but I'm just still flabbergasted at how many reviews gloss over this incredibly important performance issue.

Top is the Pixel 6, bottom is the N10+. Just look at all the smoothing and loss of detail in the hair of the red shirt person. Geez.

I know it's unrelated in terms of topic, but look at this picture I took with the Note 9 using GCam. I'm still impressed by what it could do. I can't even replicate this with the N10+...and I've tried.

As someone who has/had both the Note 9 and the Note 10+, even though I like the camera on the Note 9, the camera on the N10+ never left me feeling disappointed. The Note 10 series cameras are basically the S10 series with a few more added features.

When I first had the N9, I was blown away by the camera. This is one of the reasons why I wanted it back. I have found I really like the punchyness of the Note 9. Look at how good some of these images are.

Oh, and the Note 9 works awesome at night evidently. This is at my job while walking to the building at about 5AM while its still dark out.

Look at how sharp and detailed they are even for being at night. I used night mode, but still. I was blown away. Still, I dont think anyone using the Note 10+ camera would be disappointed.

Here's GCam on Note 10+ versus stock camera. Check out the difference in detail. The only drawback is the half-second processing delay that happens after you press the shutter button in the GCam app. Pics were taken next to the window, so there was ample light, and still there was an oil painting effect on hair and for general human features. I bring this up because it's probably the only disappointing thing I find with my N10+, and even then, it can be fixed with a workaround.

Overall, I like my N10+, but that's because I accept it's limitations and purchased it with specific intentions: NES-PS2 and everything in between for emulation, taking the burden off my daily driver when watching YouTube via WiFi, shooting video, and Samsung Picture Link (one of my FAVORITE features no one knows about). It's not my daily driver, and I don't expect security updates, nor do I intend on using it for still shots (I've got a P3, P4 and P6 on deck for that), but for raw power, I love it.
