my sumsung galaxy s4 mini i9090 cant show network modes how can i change to 4g network

my sumsung galaxy s4 mini is showing edge on the network and i have failed to switch it to either 3g or 4g is it possible that the version of the fone can go beyond 2g or there is a way i can do it ,it also cant run any apps like facebook or watsapp messenger wat could be the problem

Welcome to Android Central! Which carrier are you on? The phone has to support the carrier's 4G bands in order to connect.

Also, FYI it's "Samsung," not "sumsung."
