When I click on that link, Wildman, nothing opens. What should I be doing?

IT should automatically start downloading. You may have a security feature on your browser that is blocking it. You can try to right click and save link as, or download it directly on your phone (just get the tapatalk forum app from market). If that doesn't work, I'll post a full link from my computer here in a few, instead of a tiny from my phone and see if that works for you.

Hi,

I just wanted to say thank you for your excellent and thorough work in posting the guide "Noobs guide to rooting/romming your phone."

I am new to rooting and romming, and had been researching for weeks to understand a completely new technical method, and was having trouble finding complete and reliable resources for rooting and installing CWM and a new ROM.

Your guide was thorough, with full, and most importantly; accurate information.

I used your guide to successfully install an EC07 clean rom on my Samsung Continuum from start to finish. It made my life a whole lot easier.

I also had a question regarding the EC09 roms which are out there.

I noticed you are running "EC09 Deodexed."

Do you have instructions on how I can upgrade to an EC09 build?

Now that I am on a clean EC07 rom, do I have to install a stock EC09 build before flashing to a "EC09 Deodexed"? Can I just install over my EC07 clean build?

If so, can you please explain how I can do this?

Also, if not too much trouble, can you link to the specific "EC09 Deodexed" rom you are using so that I can download it?

Also, if you happen to also know where I can download a stock EC09 build?

Many thanks for any help, your stellar work!!

- Tim

Actually, yes. I made up a guide for another forum. See if this works for you. Let me know about any broken links, and (obviously) ask any questions, first.

[ROM] [EC09] Guide to moving to EC09 from any other ROM. - Android Forums

Unreal.

Pure magic! That was en epic guide, and I understood all of it on the first read.

Weeks and weeks looking through scrappy posts and finally, a clear, concise complete guide. Seriously, both guides you prepared have been immensely helpful in clarifying confusing aspects of this new (to me) technical world.

I've been too busy to do the upgrade in the past few weeks, but I hope the offer to ask questions will still stand when I do utilize the guide some time in the next few weeks.

PLEASE keep up the EXCELLENT work.

(p.s. : received your pm as well, but since I only have two posts, I can't reply.)

Questions are always welcome. That's how we learn. Don't worry about asking a "stupid" question. The ones I asked, when I started this mess seemed down right idiotic to those teaching me. And if you don't believe me, go over to xda, and ask trailblazer. As for the pm issue, I have this thread subscribed. And if you need some one on one, I'll give you my number.

It works up until I hit step 13. When I hit "apply sdcard:update.zip" it says:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
update.zip gone

Help? D:

EDIT: My SD card is now inaccessible and my phone's gyroscope is borked (opens all menus in landscape mode when I'm holding my phone upright). I've tried factory resetting (which did absolutely nothing) and now I don't know what to do.

Did you make the nandroid in step 9? If you hung up on step 13, I wonder if the kernel flashed. If so, that might explain the gyroscope and sdcard issues. Do me a favor. Go to settings/about phone and tell me what it says on kernel. If it says 26.9.36 (if I recall correctly. I've since sold my continuum), then I would go back into download mode, and flash the test 4.tar file again. Once again in pda, reboot unchecked. Then boot into recovery, and follow the steps from 13 on. If that doesn't work, then let me know, and I will walk you through flashing back to stock rooted. I am curious, though. Can you not get the froyo ota? This guide is severely out dated.

I followed the directions exactly. The kernel says 2.6.32.9. I found this walkthrough to restoring my continuum, but I haven't tried it yet.

I can't get froyo ota, I tried. It doesn't update to 2.2, it just stays at 2.1-update1, whatever that means.

[ROM] [EC09] Guide to moving to EC09 from any other ROM.

This is a guide I made up for getting to ec09. You can try that as well. For the record, you are on ec07 kernel. I think that would explain your difficulties. A fit the tutorial you reference, that will work to. I wouldn't worry about using the pit file, though. Just flash the dl17 odex he references by itself.
One other thing. Whichever guide you use, when you flash the dl17, it will factory reset you

Hmmm did you try that update 2.1-update? Cause the phone would have to have required files to update to 2.2

Only if you forget the Vaseline. Swapped to paranoid, last night. But I'm gonna hold off on changing my Sig until I'm sure I have the random reboot issue fixed.
