Opening downloaded pdf on Samsung s9 note

[Android Central Question]

When I download a Word file I get a message asking if I want to open the file but to open a downloaded pdf I have to find the file in storage and open from there. Am I missing a setting?

Welcome to Android Central! Is this a Galaxy S9 or a Galaxy Note9? There's no "S9 Note."

Are you certain this is a PDF file and not a DOCX file?

How are you downloading the file -- using a browser or the Google search app? Are you downloading it from a website?

Which apps are you using to open the files? I am able to use Microsoft Office for Android to open both .docx and .pdf files. I do have a Microsoft365 subscription.
