recovering data from an Huawei P10

As you may have already guessed I have a Huawei P10 mobile phone and I use this sometimes a sound recorder for when I do research and interviews.

Today I stupidly deleted one of my recordings which is super important.

When I look into recovering the data it seems I have to root the phone which I have no problem in doing, but I read that I also have to unlock the bootloader and this will erase everything on my phone. So it's not something I want to do.

So is there any way I can recover my sound file or is it lost forever?

Rooting will probably not be a guarantee that it'll work either, unfortunately. If the file wasn't backed up elsewhere (on another device or to a cloud service) or if your recorder doesn't have a 'Trash bin' option, the file will be VERY hard to recover even for low-level apps that might try to rebuild the data.
