Smart Lock (Trusted Places) Never Works

[Android Central Question]

Smart Lock doesn't work at home (or other Trusted Places).

Troubleshooting:
I have repeatedly removed a Trusted Place in Smart Lock settings, removed and re-added my home location in Maps, played with manually adding a GPS Pin for a Trusted Place.

This has been going on for years - what am I missing?

Current setup:
Hardware: Pixel 6
OS: Android 12
Build: SP2A.220505.002

One thing to note: I am using Google One's built in VPN.
But I remember this happening on old phones when I wasn't using it.

Try without VPN and reboot the device

I had issues with it on my Pixel 5 but fixed it by using Maps to pinpoint my trusted location (home). Once I did that it worked all the time, no issues.

Welcome to Android Central! In my experience, Trusted Places has never worked well, even with my Pixel 6 Pro. I've pretty much resigned myself to that.

Since I work from home I have it set to my location and a couple of trusted devices, my two Plantronics bluetooth earpieces I use for phone calls. When bluetooth is off the location works well, however after awhile it will lock. The blurb for trusted places does indicate it will stay unlocked for up to 4 hours. I think that is a bit ambiguous.

@Smokeaire01 Good tidbit of info there! I never knew there was a 4 hour limit. Although I think my phones have locked before the 4 hour window was up, but I'll pay closer attention now ...

Mine has locked before the 4 hours, it does indicate UP TO 4 hours so implications are it can lock sooner than that.

I haven't had any issues with trusted places. I set up work and home and it's been very reliable.

I've been using smart unlock, trusted place, (home), for a few months. Works for me. Pixel 6 Pro.
