The app tray is showing recently used

The app tray (the bottom row of icons) is showing recently used apps rather than the standard phone, Chrome, Photos, messages and camera buttons.

How do i get the defaults back instead of recently used apps?

Which device you have ? Some can edit those and others can't

Welcome to Android Central! That sounds like a Moto feature. Try long-pressing any empty part of the homescreen, then select Home Settings, and look for an option there that might be related.
