Unfortunately <random app> has stopped

Ever since the "upgrade" to 4.0.4 my phone has been just wacky. Amongst many other things I keep getting messages (notifications) popping up on my screen that say:

Unfortunately Youtube has stopped
Unfortunately email has stopped
Unfortunately Messaging has stopped

etc...

This can happen when I'm in those apps, or, more regularily, about every 10 minutes when I'm NOT in those apps. For example, if I'm using Maps, it will routinely pop up with Youtube or Email stopping.

Yes, this is unfortunate...

I'm talked to Verizon and their suggestion to do a master reset hasn't solved anything. They've also told me I can't downgrade to the previous operating version (which was soooo much friendlier).

Ideas?

Yep, I have this EXACT same problem! Except for mine, after whatever " has stopped", then the phone goes crazy, freezes, and I can't even reboot. I've tried several factory resets, complained to Verizon, they sent me out a refurbished is hed phone today. I inset the similar card, haven't even downloaded any apps yet or inserted my SD card, click on play store to browse apps and not even 5 mins into having the phone turned on, it says "Unfortunately, Google play has stopped"! At this point, I literally had no apps installed and not even my SD card was in it! I have had it up and running for less than 12 hours and it has already froze twice! I have just about had it. I am definitely considering switching to t mobile at this point. Even as I type this. The letters are popping up on the screen one by one extremely slowly long after I have typed them. This is crazy!

My Mom's D4 had this issue. Did a factory reset but it did not solve it. I called Verizon customer support & after troubleshooting & discussing the issue we decided a replacement phone was in order. When her replacement arrived, I set it up for her, re-loaded her apps, set up her home screens & widgets. Her phone is fine & has been ever since, from back in July.
