Upgrade from S22 Ultra to Fold 4, or wait for 5?

So I'm going to jump into the fold arena. Right now I can trade in my S22 Ultra (900 bucks), get the 512GB for same price as 256GB, and with the Rakuten 10% cash back, pay 809.99 plus tax.

I know the fold 5 is going to be released end of July/ early august. I'm thinking it might be best to wait for the newer CPU, new hinge, maybe better battery life with the new CPU. If i go with the Fold 4 it would have to be at least fold 6 before upgrading again as 2.5 months is too short of a period. It may cost a couple hundred more for the fold 5 (less trade in value).

Not impressed with the google fold, plus its first generation.

Whenever a new 'same level' device is about to be released, it is always advisable to wait it out as most likely promos will make up for the wait. Worst case, you'll also get promos and price drops on previous models if the new one doesn't impress you.

I would wait. You're pretty close to fold 5 and you also have pixle fold chiming in the picture.

Doubt they will give me 900 for my S22 ultra in 2.5 months but we'll see. The think the small upgrades will be worth waiting. Plus might get some samsung credit to get some S pens or something.

If this year's trade-ins for the S23 line are any indication, yes, Samsung trade-ins will NOT offer the spectacular amounts they used to offer for the S21/22 pre-orders. But you never know. You may not be getting 900 bucks for your trade-in, but if you buy now, you'll probably be paying whatever the difference is on a device now that's gonna price-drop when the new one releases.

That being said, if you do the Math, maybe you can trade in the Fold 4 for a better trade-in than the 900 you're gonna pay for it and THAT may make sense. But again, trade-in values this year were less than impressive.

At $1300 for a fold 4 and a trade in to lower the price is something to think about for sure.
