Using the Pause & Wait feature during a call???

Does anyone know how to use the Pause/Wait feature during a call?
When adding a number to my address book, I see the "P" for Pause, and "W" for Wait.
I added a Wait. It added a comma where the wait would be placed.
The thing that gets me, is that I have no clue how to use it during a call.
As I make a call, there is nothing for me to press for the Wait, so that I can have the additional numbers after the Wait keyed in automatically.

The comma is used in the phone book to insert pauses for automated response systems, like business' where you have to dial 5 if you know the party's extension and then dial the extension. The number would look like 123-456-7890,,,5,,,208 to get extension 208. You don't need it when you are dialing normally because you are listening already.
