Why cant I successfully update my MI Box MDZ-22-AB?

[Android Central Question]

It gives a prompt to press two specific buttons at the same time. I do this but after a while, it says 'failed'. I'm very near my wife and the remote is very near the box when I try to update but it still fails. I cant even use the remote - I dont see cursors, etc. I cant move anything

That box is 2 years old and probably isn't getting any more system updates. Do you know for certain that an update is available?
