Custom fields in contacts

When you create a new contact via your web browser, you have the option of adding a custom field. For example, if I create a Gmail address that is a forward to five doctors, I can create a custom field named "physicians" and I can then add all the doctor's names to that field, so I can see who the email is being forwarded to. However, I cannot see that custom field on my phone, rooted or stock. Are there some hidden options somewhere to view these custom fields, or is this an HTC limitation?

It's a general failing of Android.

Whilst the custom fields are synched to the device, the inbuilt contact managers cannot view, or edit them.

There are some solutions, this is one but it's not perfect.

Caveat, I'm the developer :)
