My HTC mail has been at 2.xx MB since I ran into this problem several weeks ago. As said many times, the only difference now is I keep mail at

100KB
3 Days old only
15 minute refresh

Don't know what it was, but thank goodness it's working for me.

Check to see if your emails are showing attachments, because when I tried that a while back, unless I had the phone set to no limit, it would not show that there was an attachment.

k9 mail has been working for me for a little over a month. I resolved the text size being too small issue by downloading the newest version from here Downloads - k9mail - Project Hosting on Google Code Unfortunately I have just run into a very disappointing current limitation of the program and I just wanted to warn everyone. For some reason if you try to forward an html email, which all of my work emails seem to be, the forwarded message will show all of the html code. I have had a couple of people tell me that my forwards have just been a bunch of jibberish. This link shows that it is a known issue but I don't know when it will be fixed. Issue 854 - k9mail - Forwarding of HTML mails - Project Hosting on Google Code

Chuck, what email accounts do you have set up in HTC mail? EAS, or POP/IMAP, or both?

Thanks,

I have
One Gmail
One Exchange
One Cox *
One Hotmail *
One Yahoo *

* My Settings are Temp Storage = SD card
mail size limit = 25kb
Download three days
Frequency = 15 minutes

chuck, what are you doing differently? the mail size has almost doubled in two days.

I can't explain yesterdays increase, but today I downloaded a 8mb attachment. As the mail size went up and down, I thought it had to do with the number of emails received and were removed(Three day settings). I'm still not clearing the cache, or deleting any emails, just letting time take it's course.

At this point I'm expecting the memory issue really soon.

2nd time for the low memory problem

incredible...

htc mail is at 123mb. cache, trash, peep cache, and all of the other waving of dead chickens has been done.

First time, did a factory reset and rebuilt it.

Have not done that again, nor installed k9. Can't download any progs now due to "low memory", although the stats show up as:

device / total / available

sd card 7.4gb 7.39gb
internal phone storage 6.6 gb 6.52gb
phone memory 748mb 699mb

htc mail shows 123mb, zero cache...

clearly, this is not a phone for a businessman. maybe good for a person who has a lot of time to geek out on a cell phone, and doesn't mind rebuilding it every few weeks to keep it running.

I will have to nuke it to be able to get k9. hope that is the proper dead chicken to wave at this problem.

Of interest to me sociologically is how everyone seems to be quite complacent about the absence of the manufacturers involved providing any help on this $1,200 per year service, $200 device.

I will chalk that up for a success in education in America. "Call cell phone customer service?? Are you nuts??"

as expected, insufficient memory for sms/mms

Now have both icons.

low memory and "not enough storage space for sms/mms".

A very interesting design to put email into the most limited segment of memory on the phone.... I have attachments going to sd card, or so my settings say.

Mail crashes, can't down load any software from market. Bricked other than as a phone, so far that still works.

well if its saving browser data, i suppose that could add up in short order. if it's aggregating embedded pictures from your emails into this stealth folder, then it would make perfect sense, actually. the only problem is that after my wipe i noticed that folder was left and deleted it manually. since the wipe all ive used is k9, and i'm not repeating the low memory issue at all. so i still think it's the htc mail, but this new issue probably doesnt help

I'm using HTC Mail only for an exchange account, at the moment. I have it set not to automatically download attachments, but I have downloaded a few manually. I've had the phone for a week, and so far my total usage for Mail is only 5.4 MB, and the cache is at 0. I wonder if whatever the problem is only affects Pop or Imap accounts.

Apparently the HTC version packs and saves. Here's a hint (in case you haven't read all of this thread): use another app, or keep everything to the minimum. 3 days or less and smaller downloads.

I recommend K-9.

....my $.02.

When I have to reset my phone again, I will probably just have everything imported to Google, maybe... Hopefully Exchange and Google alone wont be a issue.
