Smart stay and smart rotate.

For Smart Stay, it comes on about 10 seconds before the screen is going to time out. That's an indication that the phone is using the camera to scan for a face. If it sees a face (most think it's looking for eyes), it resets the timer. If it doesn't, it checks again just before the screen is going to timeout. If it still doesn't see a face, your screen turns off.

For Smart Rotate, when the phone detects it's been shifted from vertical to horizontal, or vice versa, the eye comes on to tell you the camera is checking to see if your face has also rotated with the phone. If not, it changes the orientation of the screen from portrait to landscape (or vice versa).
