I've had this question for a very long time, but always have been afraid to ask. If I move an app to the SD card and that app relies on new information, like a news update, will it still get current information if it's on an SD card?

Good question Adam. If an app can be moved to SD (some even install there by default) then the app itself is configured to handle it properly.

If you notice when you go to Manage Applications, even an app that has been moved to SD still has a small footprint in your non-SD internal memory. This is usually the executable file for the app and some supporting files and scripts to handle things like live updates, etc. What the app does is create a Folder on your SD card where it redirects all new downloaded Data and support files to like caches, mpgs or icons, etc.

If the app is coded properly even when you get an update of the app it should simply overwrite the files it needs to for the new version and should automatically look on the SD card for a Folder associated with the app to link to.

On rare occasions you will see much griping in the comments in the Android Market or Amazon that an "update broke the app".... in many cases this is because the app was moved to SD and the update did not address the links properly. 99 out of 100 times it would have been faster for the whiners to delete the app and reinstall the newest version (and then move it to SD again if they really want to) than it took to type the complaint.

I had started to write up something very similar to what you did, but halfway through I ran out of steam and changed it to the short answer yes. :p

Yes the application will display current info. In certain scenarios app may crash when you update the os of your phone. Don't panic the app crashing will on rare circumstances.
