it is game over? ...now that there will be no more free tethering for unlimited data since all new phones come with KitKat and can't be rooted?
(examples: HTC One M8 and soon, the Samsung Galaxy S5, both of which can't be rooted, as least not for a long time....)

Re: no more free tethering for unlimited data since all new phones come with KitK...

Can't be rooted ? In xda they mention both have been rooted already or am I missing something ?

Htc m8

[Recovery & Rooting] TWRP Touch Recovery 2.6.3.3 v.0.6 [M7_PORT] - xda-developers

S5

[SM-G900F] CF-Auto-Root - xda-developers

Edit: at least for this with an unlocked bootloader I suppose.

I have been following those threads as well. It appears that they don't work on the Verizon version, or that it sets off the KNOX warranty void flag.... :(

Not true for the m8. It's s off and can use free tethering. As for Sammy s5 not possible in the mean time.
