Not sure where to put this so I figured Android 12 would be the best start.

For years I've been used to swiping from the edge of the screen on certain app to open the menu, Gmail is a good example of an app I use every day to do this. I would swipe left to right so I could open the Gmail menu to switch from Primary to Social or Updates inboxes for example. Now with gestures, when I swipe it will do the Android "back" thing and oftentimes take me right out of the app.

Any tips/solution for this? I'm using the default Pixel launcher on my phone.

You can still do it, you have to swipe down at an angle instead of straight from the right side.

Right, swiping at a diagonal from the left (either from the lower left diagonally up or from the upper left diagonally down) will bring out the side menu. In addition, you can also long press the left edge of the screen, which should cause the side menu to peek out, after which you can swipe it fully out.

Cool, I like this one better, I still sometimes do the Android back swipe when trying to swipe diagonally, I was getting better at it, but long pressing and seeing the menu appear works really well. Thanks a lot!
