Calling from Google Now without the Prompt?

Currently when you tell Google Now to call a contact, it will first pop up a picture of the contact and then prompt you to press the call button to execute the call. Is there a way to get Google Now to just call the contact without the prompt?

Yep. Bring up Google Now and say:

dial Jane Smith

You will see a rapidly moving countdown bar, after which it will directly dial using whatever phone app you've set up as the default.

I feel silly, the dial and call function are both the same. I just wasn't waiting long enough for it to make the call. I'd see the contact window pop up with the prompt button and figured it sits there until I select it. Patience, what a virtue.
