SMS text messages not arriving in inbox

I use the Handcent app and have not been able to view any messages that have arrived ever since last night.
After some testing, I foudn that when I enable pop-up notifications, I can view incoming messages. But at no point do they become visible in my inbox... i.e. when I close the pop-up there is no trace of that message ever existing.
Other points:

• I am able to view texts that I have asent
• The stock Android messaging app does not receive messages either
• I verified that the Hangouts app has SMS disabled

Also, I'm not sure if it is related, but my Handcent app updated yesterday.

Problem resolved. I checked Twitter and found similar outrage among Handcent users.
There was an even more recent app update waiting for me in the Play Store, which resolved the problem.
