Nougat & Marshmallow texting app inappropriately overrides camera settings

Under Nougat, the texting app has the option to save its data to the SD card. Since Marshmallow (at least) the camera has also had this same option. However when you open the texting app, then do an attachment (using the paper clip) and select "Take Photo", the texting app overrides at least two of the camera's defaults. First, the photo will appear in internal memory despite the fact that both the texting and camera apps are set to use the SD card. And second, the photo will be in portrait mode even if you flipped your phone to landscape orientation to take the picture; this happens even if you had the phone in landscape orientation before switching from the texting app to the camera. This is not a question; I am just complaining.
