Do 3rd party apps rely on stock apps for functionality? For instance does "Go Contacts" rely on the stock "People" app on my GNEX in order for me to have contacts on the phone. I'd like to free up as much storage memory as I don't have an sd card slot. unrooted Gnex

Some do and some do not. It depends on the device and the 3rd party app. For example, you can safely remove Gallery3D.apk if you have a suitable replacement (QuickPic FTW), but removing the stock browser takes away your ability to have bookmarks on your homescreen. GO Contacts seems to rely on Contacts Storage, but not the Contacts app. Not sure about the People app, but if that's what they're call Contacts in ICS...

You might try an app, such as App Quarantine, to isolate an app and see how it would be if you were to remove it. The Disable function in ICS, from what I've seen, is not very effective.

You will need root to start removing stock apps. Do a nandroid backup first!
