Using Google Talk over WiFi?

When going from 3G to WiFi, Google Talk signs out. I guess I can understand that as the data connection is lost there.

However it never signs back in when using WiFi. It just sits at signing in until I connect to 3G.

Can Google Talk not be used over WiFi? Seems odd.

I found this thread but it doesn't have a solution. Anyone else have this issue and maybe a solution?

Google Talk uses certain ports to communicate. It could be that the Wifi network you are connecting to does not allow communication on those ports. This happens to me when i'm at work. Since those ports are closed, i cannot use Gtalk on wifi when at work. However on my home wifi, i can login with no issues.

That's interesting, thanks for the explanation. I was using the library's WiFi. I'll check out a home WiFi and see if it works.
