SYNC 3: SYNC cannot initialize Android Auto

Running Android Auto on SYNC 3 in a 2016 F150. It ran fine the first two times I drove the vehicle after upgrading to the new version of SYNC. Now I get a message: "SYNC cannot initialize Android Auto. Please check device settings." Phone is HTC One M9. Connection is via USB cable. Any suggestions?

I am having the same issue with my 2016 F150 Sync3. My phone is the HTC M8. Maybe it is a quirk with HTC phones? I tried two different cables and had the problem with each of them.
