Looking to port our Android App to Android Auto (as a Custom App).

We have an Android App thats working currently on phones - its for the transport of non emergency patients to and from hospitals.

We think its an ideal use case to port to Android Auto as a custom app.
There's a bit of info about custom apps here

But there's no further information about developing custom apps.

So I'm looking for some relevant contact information in Google, or just any more info,

UPDATE: I got in contact with Reto Meier (Google Developer Advocate) via his Twitter account here - https://twitter.com/retomeier ... he was helpful and he is going to forward my email onto the relevant team. When I hear back I'll update this post.

Thanks to Reto Meier for looking into this for us, but his response was not encouraging ...

I heard back from the team, and unfortunately I don't have good news. While they're interested in your use-case, they're not currently open to engaging to take this further. I approached a couple of different parts of the team to see if there was a way forward, but for now they're advising the best solution is to create a "regular" Android app that can be used by your drivers rather than an Android Auto custom app.
Sorry I wasn't able to help further, I'll reach out if I learn that anything changes.

I found you by googling for something else.
Is the app you are talking about intended for sale (or to be distributed on PlayStore) or is it more for internal use?

I'm asking you because I was able to hack the AA framework and I can now successfully deploy 3rd party apps to Android Auto (see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l62z3aFZePQ ) however since currently Google official does not support this it means that you cannot upload this kind of apps to PlayStore and you need to use different distribution methods.
If the app is for internal usage purpose please feel free to contact me on borconie@gmail.com and we can have a discussion about a collaboration/development.
