adb device offline when in recovery

[Android Central Question]

It's an S5 with Marshmallow stock system and adb on Windows 10, and that happens only in recovery mode. Tried everything I could find: plug/unplug, debug/undebug change port, change cable, kill/start server, update sdk...

What could be missing?
