Xaiomi Redmi note 10 on android 11. When my phone rings, to indicate an incoming phone call, how do I accept the call? The screen is completely blank, and pressing the volume or switch-on buttons does nothing.

Are you using the stock phone app ?
Can try safe mode and see if you can answer calls.

Welcome to Android Central! Something isn't working correctly -- the screen should at least turn on when you get a call.

It's possible that your proximity sensor is blocked, which might cause the phone to turn the screen off. This can be caused by a poorly fitting screen protector or case -- do you have either on?
