Freaking "square white box" instead of Smiles/Emojis....Help pls

So My phone is a Samsung Galaxy s4 and recently I believe whenever someone sends me a smile I get a freakin "square white box" instead. The language is on emoji. When I use the smiles that came with the phone (standard ones that you can make with parenthese they come out as smiles) they come out but when I use the emoji they do not. But also receiving smiles I get "squares white box"... I've been trying to fix this for 3 hours please help please...

The problem most likely is that that emoji file is not IN your System so when you receive the emoji your texting app is trying to display a file that it cannot find(BTW what have you tried to fix this??
