What doe vanilla android mean??

I know that nexus 5 got vanilla android but what does it really mean i know it gets updates earlier than other device but is it that all or is there something else?

Vanilla Android basically means how Google intended it. Some manufacturers and their own "skins" (such as Samsung) which makes it look different and maybe have different functionality.
