droid Maxx Camera does not work since 4.4.4 update

How can I get a resolution to the camera on my Droid Max. I have been a Motorola user for over 15 years.
Shortly after I purchased my new Droid Maxx there was a software update. My phone worked fine before the update and after the update the camera only works about 2-4% of the time. When I click the Camera, the screen goes black and then an error message to restart the camera. Verizon has been amazing trying everything from a factory restart, replacing the phone, another factory restart, removing programs from my phone including Google voice, etc, Starting the phone in safe mode and nothing has worked.

I have tried to deal with the Motorola Team who have been rude and unhelpful Stating everything has been done. They want me to send them my phone... or pay $99 and they will send me a phone to use, however they cannot guarantee the next phone will not have the same camera problem. I do not think another phone will resolve the issue as this seems to be a software problem.

So what is the answer... I have purchased a phone, that worked perfectly, and this is my 3rd Droid. Then the update came and now my camera does not work. I have missed out on Wedding Pictures, Accreditation Pics, Work related Pics, Grand Children's birthday parties etc.

is there a resolution, as getting a 2nd replacement phone did not resolve the problem and the camera will not work on this one too...

Among all the things done, was a Cache Partition wipe tried? That's said to be good practice after an update and although you'd think it would be done by Factory Resetting, it seems that that's not always so.
Also, perhaps try Settings, Apps, All, scroll to the Camera app, open, and select Clear Cache and Clear Data.

I think this is your device, for the wipe, if you're not sure how to do:

Re: droid Maxx Camera does not work since 4.4.4 update

Cache partition wipe is always worth trying--by the way, this is the correct link for the Droid Maxx: Wipe Cache Partition - DROID Mini / DROID Ultra / DROID Maxx by Motorola. The one above is for the the old Razr Maxx ...

I've seen various other posts about camera issues after the 4.4.4 update, so I don't think you're alone. One would hope that Motorola works on another update that fixes it. In the meantime, have you tried other 3rd party camera apps like Camera Zoom FX? If the problem is with the Camera app itself, then a 3rd party camera app might solve the problem. But if the problem is with the firmware, then 3rd party app probably won't help.

Good luck!

Thank you for the replies.. Yes, I forgot to mention... we did the cache too... I do appreciate the suggestions...

Re: droid Maxx Camera does not work since 4.4.4 update

so, we dedide to do the Cache again... the camera still does not work.

I sure hope Motorola will figure this out. My camera has not worked for 6 months...

I apologise for the duff link I gave above.

Yes, I would suggest that you try B. Diddy's idea of downloading a third-party camera app, of which there are many.

Re: droid Maxx Camera does not work since 4.4.4 update

I have a droid Maxx HD with similar issues and more. Camera issues, app that use the camera like scanners and Magnifiers. I also cannot stream music to my Ford Sync. Battery dies way quicker and when you look at the battery stats, it's because the OS & system is using twice as much ram as it used to. I HATE KITKAT. Want my old reliable phone back. I hate upgrades.

Dear All, I have found the secret solution to Droid Maxx Back Camera problem. I have spent so much time and money to get this thing fixed but sadly the repair person sitting in the markets are not experts, even people at Motorola should be ashamed of themselves for not posting solution to this problem.

Its not I.C problem or Camera problem or require any software update. Its simple thing, I would post the solution here but then how would I know if I helped someone I don't need anything just looking for the feeling that you get from helping someone. Please get in touch with me and I will tell you.

I have spent so much time and money on this issue. Especially to travel from one part of city to other in the hopes of finding proper repairman but to no avail.

Welcome to Android Central! Posting your solution here would undoubtedly help someone -- that's what forums are for!:)

Several appeals to that poster over a period of about 5mo have gone unanswered, so don't hold your breath.

Hi All,

I'm fairly certain the problem does not lie anywhere but in the updates. After the companies admit they basically phase out the phones with updates so you buy a new one, it's obvious how the phone used to work incredibly fast and now it's not even comparable. Almost as if the updates only HURT the phone. One update made my youtube not work and constantly crash. The newest update now has my camera not working and my Messenger crashes at times. Very frustrating. It won't even let me clear the cache on my camera, as in I hit "clear" and it's like I'm hitting an empty button. Very frustrating.

The bottom line: the companies want you getting so frustrated that you have no choice but to buy a new phone because these companies would not make money like they do if everyone went 10+ years per phone.

Thanks and good luck. Don't have as much faith in these companies as you do. They're not human and only care about the name of profits :)

That's what I had until recently. I now own the Note 10+. My camera on the MAXX also quit a few years ago along with bluetooth, and wifi. I'm just wondering if the phone not having any support had anything to do with that.
