Google Analytics service rapidly draining my battery on Android 4.0.4

Google Analytics service within the Google Play services is rapidly draining my battery. If I kill Google Analytics then my battery lasts several additional hours, It is especially bad when I'm on networks that are blocking the site that Google Analytics is trying to reach.

How can I block Google Analytics service from starting?
If it cannot be blocked from starting, how can I make it not drain my battery?

Thanks, Mark

I've never heard of Google Analytics. What version of Android are you running? How does it show in the battery usage stats if it's just a part of the Google Play Services app?

Google Analytics isn't a service in the phone, it's a service provided by Google. About the only way to "block" it (it's hard-wired into some apps and some sites) is to root the phone and edit your hosts file to point google-analytics.com to 127.0.0.1 (which is the loopback address of your phone - IOW, the phone will basically ignore calls to Google Analytics). Some ad-blockers may consider Google Analytics an ad and block it, but most of them also require rooting.
